Strength in Christ

Discussion Point #1: What are some areas of life where we need strength? How do we get the strength to do what needs to be done in Christ?
2 Corinthians 12:9 (AMP)
9but He has said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you [My lovingkindness and My mercy are more than enough—always available—regardless of the situation]; for [My] power is being perfected [and is completed and shows itself most effectively] in [your] weakness.” Therefore, I will all the more gladly boast in my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ [may completely enfold me and] may dwell in me.
Isaiah 40:29 (AMP)
29He gives strength to the weary,
And to him who has no might He increases power. [2 Cor 12:9]
We seek God because when—not if—we find ourselves in weakness, His strength is made perfect in us. We lean into the very God who created us, knowing that we don’t have to rely on our own strength. We don’t do it by ourselves; we do it in Him. That alone takes the pressure off of us in our own humanity.
2 Corinthians 12:10 (AMP)
10So I am well pleased with weaknesses, with insults, with distresses, with persecutions, and with difficulties, for the sake of Christ; for when I am weak [in human strength], then I am strong [truly able, truly powerful, truly drawing from God’s strength].
Discussion Point #2: What emotions arise when we try to find our strength in Jesus? How do we battle against those emotions?
Our emotions are often rooted in our thoughts. The Bible doesn’t say to take our emotions captive; it says to take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ.
2 Corinthians 10:5 (AMP)
5We are destroying sophisticated arguments and every exalted and proud thing that sets itself up against the [true] knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought and purpose captive to the obedience of Christ,
Even Jesus experienced emotions when He flipped the tables in the temple. We can be angry and sin not. We must take our thoughts captive because our thoughts can lie to us.
Fear can arise:
Isaiah 41:10 (AMP)
10‘Do not fear [anything], for I am with you;
Do not be afraid, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you, be assured I will help you;
I will certainly take hold of you with My righteous right hand [a hand of justice, of power, of victory, of salvation].’ [Acts 18:10]
Hopelessness can arise:
Romans 15:13 (AMP)
13May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing [through the experience of your faith] that by the power of the Holy Spirit you will abound in hope and overflow with confidence in His promises.
Weariness can arise:
Isaiah 40:31 (AMP)
31But those who wait for the Lord[who expect, look for, and hope in Him]
Will gain new strength and renew their power;
They will lift up their wings [and rise up close to God] like eagles [rising toward the sun];
They will run and not become weary,
They will walk and not grow tired. [Heb 12:1-3]
Discussion Point #3: We know where our strength comes from, and we know some of the things we battle when we struggle with our emotions. What does the Bible say about the battle?
Proverbs 21:30-31 (AMP)
30There is no [human] wisdom or understanding
Or counsel [that can prevail] against the Lord.
31The horse is prepared for the day of battle,
But deliverance and victory belong to the Lord.
Isaiah 40:28-31 (AMP)
28Do you not know? Have you not heard?
The Everlasting God, the Lord, the Creator of the ends of the earth
Does not become tired or grow weary;
There is no searching of His understanding.
29He gives strength to the weary,
And to him who has no might He increases power. [2 Cor 12:9]
30Even youths grow weary and tired,
And vigorous young men stumble badly,
31But those who wait for the Lord[who expect, look for, and hope in Him]
Will gain new strength and renew their power;

They will walk and not grow tired. [Heb 12:1-3]
In the end, God has got us. We don’t need to worry because the battle lines have been drawn, the plans have been made, and God has got us.
