Provision in Surrender

Sunday, August 24, 2025

When God wants to use us for a divine assignment, He doesn’t begin with our strengths—He begins with our surrender. That surrender begins in our brokenness. When we come to the place where we realize it’s not about us—but about reaching others so they don’t spend an eternity in hell.

Discussion Point #1:
This is a hard statement, but that doesn’t make it any less true. Think about your own life: have you experienced a moment of true surrender to God? What came out of that surrender?

Philippians 2:4–8 [AMP] 4Do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interests of others. 5Have this same attitude in yourselves which was in Christ Jesus [look to Him as your example in selfless humility], 6who, although He existed in the form and unchanging essence of God [as One with Him, possessing the fullness of all the divine attributes—the entire nature of deity], did not regard equality with God a thing to be grasped or asserted [as if He did not already possess it, or was afraid of losing it]; 7but emptied Himself [without renouncing or diminishing His deity, but only temporarily giving up the outward expression of divine equality and His rightful dignity] by assuming the form of a bond-servant, and being made in the likeness of men [He became completely human but was without sin, being fully God and fully man]. 8After He was found in [terms of His] outward appearance as a man [for a divinely-appointed time], He humbled Himself [still further] by becoming obedient [to the Father] to the point of death, even death on a cross.

Dr. Myles Munroe said:

“Brokenness becomes the mirror through which we finally see the depth of what God placed inside of us. Brokenness removes the outer shell of performance, perfectionism, and pretense.

Discussion Point #2:
Take a moment to reflect personally (no one needs to share out loud). Ask yourself what is inside of you? Where does change need to take place in your relationship with God, with others, or within your family?

Hebrews 4:12–13 [AMP] 12For the word of God is living and active and full of power [making it operative, energizing, and effective]. It is sharper than any two-edged sword, penetrating as far as the division of soul and spirit [the completeness of a person], and of joints and marrow [the deepest parts of our nature], and is able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart. 13And not a creature exists that is concealed from His sight, but all things are open and exposed, and revealed to the eyes of Him with whom we have to give account.

James 1:22–25 [AMP] 22But prove yourselves doers of the word [actively and continually obeying God’s precepts], and not merely listeners [who hear the word but fail to internalize its meaning], deluding yourselves [by unsound reasoning contrary to the truth]. 23For if anyone only listens to the word without obeying it, he is like a man who looks very carefully at his natural face in a mirror; 24for once he has looked at himself and gone away, he immediately forgets what he looked like. 25But he who looks carefully into the perfect law, the law of liberty, and faithfully abides by it, not having become a [careless] listener who forgets but an active doer [who obeys], he will be blessed and favored by God in what he does [in his life of obedience].

When emotions are governed by truth, chaos caused by the devil won’t change our stance, because we have studied God’s Word and know His truth. This means we can’t get distracted by the chaos around us; we remain focused on God’s mission — bringing others to the kingdom of Heaven. Because we have said yes to God, His truth becomes louder than the chaos in the world.

Discussion Point #3:
What voice is the loudest in your life right now — God’s truth or the chaos around you?

Psalm 18:30 [AMP] 30This God—His way is perfect; the word of the Lord proves true; He is a shield for all those who take refuge in Him.

Proverbs 30:5 [AMP] 5Every word of God proves true; He is a shield to those who take refuge in Him.

In truth there is safety, in truth there is no chaos, in truth we lead others to Jesus.

Challenge for the Week:
This week, take time to reflect on areas of your life where surrender to God is needed. Notice where chaos or distractions may be competing with His truth. Ask God to help you focus fully on His mission. Take a moment each day to remind yourself: Because I have said yes to God, His truth becomes louder than the chaos in the world.
